ABOUT US

The 9th Floor was founded in 2008 by a group of playwrights brought together by HB Studio and the Kennedy Center Playwriting Intensive. We cultivate a fearless and encouraging environment fueled by knowledge of craft, open dialogue, and the honest pursuit of artistic integrity.

Our voices range from keenly naturalistic to outrageously theatrical. Our mission: to help expand and deepen each playwright’s vision.

Plays workshopped at The 9th Floor have gone on to receive hundreds of regional and festival productions, publications, residencies and awards, including the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for Comic Writing, the Bauer-Boucher award from Kean University, the Stanley Drama Award, and the Thomas Barbour Playwrights Award.

Actor Members are drawn from the New York City theatre/film community and provide collaborative support that allows our writers to refine and develop their work in a professional environment.

Our Writers and Actors are available nationally to teach workshops in all aspects of theater.
